Kaye Cowher Dies

Kaye Cowher DiesKaye Cowher Dies, Kaye Cowher dies of skin cancer. Kaye Cowher, the wife of former Steelers coach Bill Cowher, died of skin cancer at the age of 54. Bill Cowher said that Kaye was his soul mate and backbone. During college Kaye played basketball with her twin sister, Faye, at North Carolina state. Then they both went on to play for the Women’s Professional Basketball League or WBL for New York and New Jersey. Kaye was one of the league’s most notable players.





Kay Cowher met her husband Bill in 1976 when the two were attending North Carolina State. While Bill was still coaching Cleveland in 1981 the couple got married. When the family moved to Raleigh, North Carolina in 2007, he retired from coaching the Steelers in order to spend more time with his family and watch his daughters play basketball.


Bill and Kaye have three daughters. Their daughter Meagan played basketball at Princeton University from 2004 through 2008.

When Cowher retired from the Steelers, he stated at his news conference: “To my wife, my soul mate and my friend: the sacrifice that she’s made and the love and support that she has given me through the years, she’s been my backbone.”
