Grandness:

I used to comparing 2010 World Cup opening ceremony with the 2008 Olympic Game in Beijing, because I am from China and I have some knowledge about what is behind 2008 Olympic Game in Beijing. As everybody else knows, 2008 Olympic Game opening can be described as gigantic, magnificent, impressive, exceptional and colorful. But the 2010 World Cup opening ceremony seems only to feature some local cultures, and bring some dancers and second-rate singers to show off. Even the dancing parade is not so orderly in rows.

2, Originality

I personally it never showcased South African originality and creativity by introducing some local features. Even technology used in the performance is old-fashioned and out dated.

3, audience attendance and occupancy:

Although the president of South Africa was attending the ceremony, still there are seats enough to accommodate 30, 000 more audiences. I firmly believe it is a waste or to be exact, the people of the South African region is not interested in such performance.

4, Copy

I had been watched 2008 Beijing Olympic Game without an unblinking stare. Interesting enough, China had seen a Giant footstep-ed into the stadium using fireworks which caused the impressive footprints. As I found, 2010 South African World Cup opening ceremony are the same as Beijing did, but only with footprints ushering a new era of football.

Finally, I like the performance, but it seems to be short of something.

LAHORE: Pakistan hockey coach Michel van Den Heuvel has said that miracles cannot be expected from his team at the Commonwealth Games. The coach asserted the plan was to improve Pakistan's world ranking.

"Pakistan do not deserve that poor 12th spot as they should be among the best outfits of the world. "Our entire planning is also focused on improving Pakistan's world ranking," he added.

Ijaz Butt Withdraws Match-Fixing Allegations Against England

Pakistan Cricket Board chairman Ijaz Butt said Wednesday he was withdrawing comments alleging England players had ‘thrown’ this month’s third one-day international at The Oval.

Butt had claimed England players were paid “enormous amounts of money” to lose The Oval match in a series the hosts ultimately won 3-2.

The England and Wales Cricket Board (ECB) threatened legal action in response unless Butt “unreservedly” apologised for remarks he said at the time were merely a case of him repeating something he’d heard from bookmakers.

And after a meeting with ECB counterpart Giles Clarke on Wednesday, England got the apology they wanted for what Butt said was a “misunderstanding”, with the ECB now declaring the matter “closed”.

Butt, in a joint ECB/PCB statement, said: “I wish personally and on behalf of the Pakistan Cricket Board to withdraw the comments I made concerning the England and Wales Cricket Board and each of the England players who played in the one-day international at The Oval on Friday 17 September." “It is regrettable that there was a misunderstanding arising from my comments,” he added.

I would like to make it quite clear that in the statements which I made that I never intended to question the behaviour and integrity of the England players nor the ECB nor to suggest that any of them were involved in any corrupt practices or in a conspiracy against Pakistan cricket.

“In particular, I wish to make it clear that I have never seen any evidence of any wrong doing by any England player or the ECB at any time. I deeply and sincerely regret that my statements have been interpreted to cast doubt upon the good names of the England players and the ECB and hope that this public withdrawal will draw a line under the matter, he added.

David Huff Struck By Line-Drive| David Huff

Indians' pitcher David Huff was struck by a line-drive hit from the Yankees' Alex Rodriguez this afternoon during the two teams' meeting. The ball struck Huff above his left eye, and Huff lay motionless for approximately six minutes following the impact. Trainers from both teams joined together at the mound quickly to provide assistance.

Sports News: The Register Guard reported this morning that Jeremiah Masoli had been cited for marijuana possession, and it took almost no time for Chip Kelly to respond. Jeremiah Masoli has been dismissed from the Oregon football team, according to the GoDucks.com twitter feed.

There’s really not a lot that can be said regarding this incident. As long as there was no DUI involved, these infractions by themselves would have been relatively minor. Masoli was cited for possession of an illegal substance, and was driving with a suspended license. But Masoli was lucky to still be on the team after pleading guilty to burglary, and this latest incident was just the straw the broke the camel’s back.

I wish Masoli nothing but the best. He’s a young man that has made some pretty serious mistakes, and is a lesson to everyone: no matter what you have going for you, you can throw away your future in a matter of hours. Masoli went from being a Hesiman front-runner to being kicked off the team in less than 6 months. He had a campus at his fingertips, and now that’s all gone.

Oregon football will go on, and him being off the team is for the best. We no longer have to deal with any second-guessing from the media, which would have occurred after the first incomplete pass by either Darron Thomas or Nate Costa.

For now, I applaud Chip Kelly’s efforts to give Masoli a second chance, but am saddened that Masoli could not take advantage of that opportunity. Masoli gave us all some spectacular memories. I won’t soon forget those times, but they will also be a reminder of what can be lost in the blink of an eye.

WIMBLEDON, Rafael Nadal Wimbledon 2010 Winners: Rafael Nadal swept Tomas Berdych in straight sets Sunday to win his second Wimbledon title and eighth Grand Slam championship.
The top-ranked Spaniard beat the 12th-seeded Czech 6-3, 7-5, 6-4 in 2 hours, 13 minutes to reinforce his current status as the No. 1 player in the game
Nadal broke Berdych four times and never lost serve in 15 service games.
It’s the second time Nadal has won the French Open and Wimbledon back-to-back. He is now 5-0 in his last Grand Slam finals.
With eight Grand Slam titles, Nadal joins a list of greats that includes Andre Agassi, Jimmy Connors, Ivan Lendl, Fred Perry and Ken Rosewall. He also has five French Open championships and one Australian Open title.
After ripping a crosscourt forehand passing shot on match point, Nadal collapsed on his back on the turf at the baseline and covered his face with his hands. After congratulating Berdych, Nadal leaped out of his chair and did a front somersault on the grass, rising to his feet with both fists clenched.
Nadal won his first Wimbledon title in 2008, beating Roger Federer in an epic five-set final, but was unable to defend his crown last year because of tendinitis in his knees.
With Sunday’s victory, he has won 14 straight matches at the All England Club and “defended” the title he won in his last appearance here.

Nadal is the first Spanish man to win Wimbledon twice. Manolo Santana took the title in 1966.
Berdych, the first Czech to reach the Wimbledon final since Ivan Lendl in 1987, had beaten top-seeded Roger Federer and No. 3 Novak Djokovic en route to the final, but couldn’t find a way to take out the second-seeded Nadal as well.
Nadal beat Berdych for the seventh straight time, a span covering 17 consecutive sets.
In a match short on drama and spectacular points, Nadal capitalized on a few weak service games by Berdych to seize control.
It was typical grass-court Wimbledon tennis, with play dominated by serves and only a few break points here and there making the difference.
Nadal played his usual grinding baseline game featuring whippet forehands, but wasn’t at his sharpest, making some uncharacteristic mistakes.
Nadal won all 15 service games, and lost only 24 points on serve.
But it wasn’t a vintage performance from Nadal, who had 21 unforced errors compared to 17 for Berdych. Nadal had 29 winners, two more than the Czech.
Nadal won all the big points against the 24-year-old Czech, who was playing in his first Grand Slam final and failed to convert any of his four break points.

Metro Opens Doors

The U.S. General Services Administration appointed two directors to the Metro Board Saturday.

Maryland, Virginia and D.C. each agreed to the appointees in order to get $1.5 billion in federal funds over 10 years for Metro maintenance and operations.

Mortimer Downey and Marcel Acosta join the board in the middle of budget crisis that could mean more expensive fares and service cuts. A public hearing about proposals to meet this year’s $40 million shortfall is scheduled for Wednesday. The board will vote on a plan Thursday.

Downey was appointed to serve as a director and Acosta was appointed as an alternate director. The federal government has the right to appoint two directors and two alternates to the board just as Virginia, Maryland and D.C. do. The GSA planned to appoint both directors and both alternates at the same time but decided not to wait on Downey and Acosta because of the budget discussion, the Washington Post reported.

“Never before has the federal government taken a role in governing any transit system in the United States. … This is entirely without precedent,” Peter Benjamin, who is supposed to take over chairmanship of the board from D.C. Councilman Jim Graham, told the Post. “As the next chair, I am going to have to integrate those roles when I don’t have the foggiest idea what is going to happen.”

“Both Mort Downey and Marcel Acosta have a long history of exceptional public service and will bring a wealth of relevant experience and knowledge to the Metro Board of Directors,” said acting GSA Administrator Stephen R. Leeds.

Downey has more than 50 years experience in major public transportation operations and management, including involvement with Metro for more than 30 years. He has served as the deputy secretary of the U.S. Department of Transportation and as executive director of the New York City Metropolitan Transit Authority.

“The Metro system is critical for the future of our region and I will work hard to give riders the system they deserve and the federal government a good return on its investment,” Downey said.

Acosta’s the executive director of the National Capital Planning Commission. He also served as an executive with the Chicago Transit Authority.

“As the region's largest employer, the federal government has a huge stake in improving the quality and infrastructure of the area's transportation system,” Acosta said.

Referee Dan Miragliotta steps in to stop the bout when MacDonald yelled in pain at 2:42 of the first round.

Round 1

Guymon flurries in to start the round, but Yoshida clinches him to the cage. The fighters trip and hit the mat and Yoshida has a weak guillotine on the "Joker." Guymon pops his head out and the pair stand again in the clinch with Guymon's back on the cage. The crowd starts to boo quickly and the ref separates them. Missed head kick by Guymon followed by a bunch of missed punches. Glancing left head kick from Yoshida followed by outside trip by Guymon, who controls from the top to end the round and finishes with a big right to the midsection standing in Yoshida's guard. 10-9 Guymon.

Round 2

Lunging punches by Yoshida who then jumps to guard with a guillotine but Guymon escapes and mounts him. Yoshida bucks and rolls back to his feet. Guymon shoots for a double leg and Yoshida snatches another guillotine. Single leg grab from Yoshida from the ground and gets back up. Clinch and scramble, Yoshida gives his back to Guymon, who attempts a rear-naked choke and Yoshida reversed him into mount. Guymon scrambles free and Yoshida gets back to side control and then finishes the round in guard. Guymon 10-9.

Round 3

Right bodykick by Guymon, followed by a nice right. Trading along the cage nothing really happening until Guymon tags Yoshida with a sharp right knee. Yoshida takes him down and sits in his half guard and then goes for side control. Guymon scrambles to the top and Yoshida shoots for a single, but Guymon pressures him down. Yoshida gives up his back and Joker working for a choke and then left elbows to the head. Guymon is trying to choke Yoshida without hooks, then gets to mount. Guymon sits on Yoshi da and drops nasty elbows to his head. Guymon is bullying Yoshida, who has nothing for him. Guymon controls from top dropping the occasional fist. 10-9 Guymon who drops to his knees and cries with emotion.

Official scores: 30-27 across the board for Guymon, the winner by unanimous decision.

Titanic’ Star Gloria Stuart Dies At 100

Latest News Update About Gloria Stuart, the 1930s Hollywood beauty who gave up acting for 30 years and later became the oldest Academy Award acting nominee as the spunky survivor in “Titanic,” has died. She was 100.

Stuart died of respiratory failure Sunday night at her Los Angeles home, her daughter, Sylvia Thompson, said Monday. The actress had been diagnosed with lung cancer five years ago and had beaten breast cancer about 20 years ago, Thompson said.

She did not believe in illness. She paid no attention to it, and it served her well,” Thompson said. “She had a great life. I’m not sad. I’m happy for her.”

In her youth, Stuart was a blond beauty who starred in B pictures as well as some higher-profile ones such as “The Invisible Man,” Busby Berkeley’s “Gold Diggers of 1935″ and two Shirley Temple movies, “Poor Little Rich Girl” and “Rebecca of Sunnybrook Farm.” But by the mid-1940s she had retired.

She resumed acting in the 1970s, doing occasional television and film work, including Peter O’Toole’s 1982 comedy “My Favorite Year.” But Stuart’s later career would have remained largely a footnote if James Cameron had not chosen her for his 1997 epic about the doomed luxury liner that struck an iceberg and sank on its maiden voyage in 1912.

Stuart co-starred as Rose Calvert, the 101-year-old survivor played by Kate Winslet as a young woman. Both earned Oscar nominations, Winslet as best actress and Stuart as supporting actress.

He is also believed to have used the money to buy property and invest in unit trusts and other financial products since 2008.
