Cliff Lee Trade

Cliff Lee TradeLatest news about Cliff Lee Trade Update , Breathe a sigh of relief, Red Sox nation: Cliff Lee will not be going to the Yankees after all. Lee has been traded from Seattle to Texas, along with relief pitcher Mark Lowe, for first baseman Justin Smoak, pitcher Blake Beavan, Double-A Frisco reliever Josh Lueke and second baseman/outfielder Matt Lawson.

Reports earlier in the day had Lee destined for New York in exchange for minor-league catcher Jesus Montero, infielder David Adams and a third prospect, but the deal fell through in the afternoon.

By coincidence, Lee had been scheduled to start for the Mariners tonight in Seattle against the Yankees.

Lee, who is a free agent at the end of the season, is 8-3 with a 2.34 ERA. He’s struck out 89 while walking only 6. Last season, he won two World Series games for the Phillies against the Yankees — New York won the series in six.
