Lee has been traded from Seattle to Texas, along with relief pitcher Mark Lowe, for first baseman Justin Smoak, pitcher Blake Beavan, Double-A Frisco reliever Josh Lueke and second baseman/outfielder Matt Lawson.
Reports earlier in the day had Lee destined for New York in exchange for minor-league catcher Jesus Montero, infielder David Adams and a third prospect, but the deal fell through in the afternoon.
By coincidence, Lee had been scheduled to start for the Mariners tonight in Seattle against the Yankees.
Lee, who is a free agent at the end of the season, is 8-3 with a 2.34 ERA. He’s struck out 89 while walking only 6. Last season, he won two World Series games for the Phillies against the Yankees — New York won the series in six.
