AirAsia Asean Basketball League

AirAsia Asean Basketball LeagueAsean Basketball League, IT's HERE!!!!! The AirAsia Asean Basketball League will get underway this weekend with matches in Bangkok, Singapore and Philippines. As title sponsor we are proud to work with the Asean Basketball League (ABL) to accelerate our brand in Asean and help connect our guests throughout the region and beyond. Not only that but we hope that this will provide more opportunities for our youth to participate and develop their talents within the sport of BasketballThe Leagues is in it's infancy with this being the second season. Despite this, it is already breaking boundaries by being the only regional league of it's type for any sport, and over the first season the league continued to attract fans from all over Asean.


What is ABL?


The ABL was founded in 2009 and is an initiative by corporate personalities with the support and sanction of FIBA, FIBA Asia and the South East Asia Basketball Association to promote and develop the game of basketball in South East Asia. The league seeks to create a high level platform for basketball to be developed by corporations which will work with FIBA Asia and SEABA to develop the game to create a regional pool of world class professional players for the South East Asia region.






So who is in the ABL?


There are 6 teams from 6 countries taking part in the league;


Thailand – Thailand Cobras (Bangkok)

Indonesia – Satria BritaAma (Jakarta)

Singapore – Singapore Slingers (Singapore)

Malaysia – KL Dragons (Kuala Lumpur)

Brunei – Brunei Barracudas (Brunei)

Philippines – Philippine Patriots (Manila)How does it work?


The league format will kick off on 2 October this year with matches being played in Thailand, Singapore and Philippines. The playoff Finals are scheduled to begin in February. The format will be maintained from last season which will be in the form of triple home and away for the league stages with a best of 3 series for the play offs including the finals.
