India Bets Rs 1000 Cr Over Each WC Tie

India Bets Rs 1000 Cr Over Each WC TieIf You Thought Betting in India Was Restricted to Cricket Matches Only, it's time for a reality check. According to a newspaper report, illegal bets worth more than Rs 1000 crores take place during each World Cup match that is being played out in South Africa.

The actual numbers are unavailable, for the obvious reasons, but an insider revealed that the amount is almost 20 times that of cricket matches.

Infact, Indians have been using their international credit cards for access to the global betting circles.

"The betting market for cricket is mostly restricted to Asian countries but for football it is global," a police officer said.

Law enforcing agencies also believe that a sizeable portion of the transactions are taking place through hawala channels.

Currently, Brazil and Argentina are the bookies favourites to lift the trophy.
