Detroit Tigers Tickets

Detroit Tigers Tickets, Tigers mascot Paws joins some of the first Tigers fans to approach box office windows to purchase tickets just after 10 a.m. Saturday morning. (John T. Greilick The Detroit News) The Comerica Park box office did not open until 10 a.m., but hundreds showed up early, including three fans who came at 4 a.m. to get tickets for high-profile games such as ones against the New York Yankees and Boston Red Sox.

Wristbands were given away on Friday that denoted what place a person would have in line on Saturday. There were 500 wristbands, but about 100 were left early Saturday. Buddies Terry King, Tiffany Upton and James Shows were able to get some at 4 a.m.

“We took a shot in the dark,” the 25-year-old Upton of Madison Heights said as she stood in line wearing a white parka with a blue Olde English “D” on it to get her tickets Saturday. “We love the Tigers.”

James Shows, a 34-year-old Detroit native, said he tailgates twice a year for Tigers games and 300 people join him for the festivities.

“It is always a good time,” he said.

John and Diane Griffith of St. Clair Shores aren’t getting season tickets this year but want to make sure they get seats for the home opener against the Cleveland Indians and for games against the star-studded Yankees and Red Sox. They are excited about the team picking up outfielder Johnny Damon, who previously won World Series championships with Boston and New York.

“We love Johnny Damon,” said John Griffith, 56. “We are excited about the season.”

Diane Griffith, 56, had a dentist appointment Friday and rushed her dentist so she could get in line for a wristband. She wound up being the second person able to get tickets on Saturday.

“We can’t miss Opening Day,” she said. “I was telling my dentist he had to hurry.”
