Sri Lanka Win By 126 Runs Against BangladeshSri Lanka: Tillakaratne Dilshan’s allround effort of an entertaining 71 and three wickets guided Sri Lanka to a 126-run win against Bangladesh in the Asia Cup on Friday. Sri Lanka boosted its chances of making the final next Thursday by winning both of its matches so far against Pakistan and Bangladesh. Bangladesh has lost both of its matches.


Batting first after winning the toss, Kumar Sangakkara’s men scored a venue-record total of 312-4 in 50 overs. The previous highest total at Rangiri Dambulla Stadium was Sri Lanka’s 289-4 against Pakistan last year.


Bangladesh started the chase positively as opener Tamim Iqbal hit Nuwan Kulasekara for consecutive fours in the first three balls of the innings. But their batting fell apart to be dismissed for 186 runs in the 41st over.





Tamim Iqbal top scored with a 52-ball 51 including five boundaries and a six.


Iqbal’s 55-run stand with Junaid Siddique for the second wicket offered some hope but Bangladesh’s last eight wickets fell for 82 runs.


Dilshan, who made a 51-ball 71 while batting had Iqbal stumped by Kumar Sangakkara and took the wickets of Mushfiqur Rahim and Mohammad Ashraful to finish with 3-37 in 10 overs.


Earlier, Dilshan shared a 111-run opening stand with Upul Tharanga in a flying start for Sri Lanka, scoring nearly 10 runs an over.


He hit a six and 11 boundaries before being caught and bowled by Bangladesh captain Sakib Al Hasan.


Tharanga was out for 54, stumped by Rahim off spin bowler Mohammad Mahmudullah. He faced 73 balls and hit five boundaries and a six.


Tharanga also shared 44 runs with Sangakkara, who made 52.


Former skipper Mahela Jayawardene contributed 43.


Anjelo Mathews was unbeaten on 42 with Chamara Kapugedera on 37 after an aggressive 73-run partnership in 63 balls at the end.


Bangladesh seam bowler Shafiul Islam returned the best figures of 2-59 in 10 overs.


India meets Pakistan on Saturday.
