Shawn Johnson: Training for the Olympic games in any sport is no laughing matter. Training for the Olympics in London is well under way and Shawn Johnson has thrown her hat in the proverbial ring. She won our medals in Beijing in 2008, one gold on the balance beam and three silver medals, including the individual all-round. But, an ACL surgery that Johnson had in February could be seen as a career ender. She was on crutches for weeks but has made her plans to head to London plain.Shawn Johnson is a West Des Moines native and a former gold-medal winner.In 2008, she competed in Beijing to earn that precious prize. Up until? today, Johnson remained quiet about whether she planned to try to return to the Olympics. But, while speaking to a crowd of over 8,000, she blurted out the information and naturally a huge ovation followed.
Watching as Shawn Johnson recovers from the ACL surgery will definitely be high priority for other gymnast. And, for those who don't remember her from the Olympics, she is also well known for her win on Dancing with the Stars in the spring of 2009. One athletic move that she may be famous for but not necessarily proud of is her first pitch in an Iowa Cubs game. Her fame will be short lived, much like her pitch which managed to bounce its way to the plate.
