Pakistan Bat in Twenty20 Opener

Pakistan bat in Twenty20 openerBIRMINGHAM: Shahid Afridi won the toss and Pakistan will bat first in the Twenty20 match against Australia at Edgbaston. Pakistan have made four changes from the side that lost to Australia in the World Twenty20 semi-final, with a strong pace attack set to test Australia’s top order.

Umar Gul is making his return from a shoulder injury and will be joined in the bowling unit by Shoaib Akhtar, Mohammad Aamer and Saeed Ajmal. The only change for Australia from their World Twenty20 final team was Tim Paine in for Brad Haddin, while the captain Michael Clarke was ruled fit after missing Saturday’s ODI against England with back soreness.

The match was set to start in front of a half-full Edgbaston, which theoretically was a neutral venue but featured far more Pakistan supporters than Australian fans.

Pakistan are aiming to end their 12-match losing streak against Australia across all formats, stretching back to the one-day series in Dubai last May.

Pakistan 1 Salman Butt, 2 Shahzaib Hasan, 3 Shoaib Malik, 4 Umar Akmal, 5 Shahid Afridi, 6 Kamran Akmal (wk), 7 Abdur Razzaq, 8 Umar Gul, 9 Shoaib Akhtar, 10 Saeed Ajmal, 11 Mohammad Aamer.

Australia 1 Shane Watson, 2 David Warner, 3 Michael Clarke (capt), 4 David Hussey, 5 Cameron White, 6 Michael Hussey, 7 Tim Paine (wk), 8 Steve Smith, 9 Mitchell Johnson, 10 Dirk Nannes, 11 Shaun Tait.
