Great Eastern Women Run 2010, WHEN Marianne Mattingly heard a young girl screaming profanity in the street on a Saturday night, she put it down to the usual drunken shenanigans she hears just about every weekend. But when a young man in his 20s came into her driveway with a bloodied face and a severely split lip, the Moffat Beach resident became determined to bring her neighbourhood closer together to prevent something like this from happening again.

"The guy had been beaten up on Bulcock Street and it was his sister who was screaming out. I should’ve yelled out 'Do you need help?’ but I couldn’t see them from where I was and there is always that fear of getting involved in something that could end up turning on you," Ms Mattingly said.

"They had only moved here two weeks ago and while all the profanity sounded like a dramatic lovers’ quarrel, the sister was obviously in shock and didn’t know where she was to direct the ambulance to.

"Once he came in here, I called them and they were here in two minutes."

The traumatic incident has prompted Ms Mattingly to approach her neighbours to get their phone numbers to prevent something like this happening again.

"They were out there for 30 minutes before he wandered into my driveway. If one of the neighbours had just opened their curtains they would have seen what was happening," she said.

"We have all agreed that it is okay if we call each other at 2am, we just need to take back control of our streets to make them safe again.

"It is important for us as neighbours to know what is going on in our own neighbourhood."

Ms Mattingly is worried that Caloundra will lose its sense of community. "This is a growing place, but many of us moved here because it is a lovely place to raise our kids and people look after each other," she said.

"Perhaps we are becoming too complacent because we don’t think much happens, but we need to pay more attention."

Ms Mattingly is considering starting a Neighbourhood Watch in Moffat Beach.

Caloundra Senior Sergent Peter Dickens, who is the NHW liaison officer, said the program had been operating for more than 20 years and was not about intrusive neighbours, but getting to know them and feeling safe that you can call on them in times of need or an emergency.

"NHW is run by the residents and assisted by police who provide information about criminal activity in the area and information is exchanged," Senior Sergeant Dickens said.

LAHORE: The family members of Pakistan cricketer Shoaib Malik are reaching home this evening while Shoaib may return up to April 21 after getting back his passport on Monday.

Shoaib's family members, after participating in his wedding with Indian tennis star Sania Mirza in Hyderabad Deccan, have reached Delhi this morning and from here they will arrive in Lahore at 6-00 pm today.

Shoaib's brother-in-law Imran Zafar Malik told Indian media before departure that Shoaib's passport is expected to be received on Monday after which he can come to Pakistan up to April 21.

The date of valima reception will be announced today or tomorrow. The ceremony will be held in Punjabi style which is expected to be attended also by people from India.

Latest News Update About Andre Johnson: Houston Texans wide receiver Andre Johnson is getting his off season wish, a new mega contract. John McClain of the Houston Chronicle? is reporting that the superstar wideout is close to signing a contract that "could" make him the highest paid player in the NFL at his position. The good thing is it looks like it all should be completed by the Week One deadline set by the team a couple months ago.

The Texans are close to signing Pro Bowl receiver Andre Johnson to a new contract that could make him the highest-paid player in the NFL at his position.McClain also adds that owner Bob McNair has gotten involved and is pretty optimistic himself about this being wrapped up quickly. "Owner Bob McNair said he expected to have the deal wrapped up in two weeks, but it's not going to take that long, a person with knowledge of the negotiations said Wednesday night."

There's no details about how rich the contract would be, or even if the contract would make Andre the highest paid in the league. You'd have to think thou that Johnson's deal would easily surpass the deal of Arizona Cardinals Larry Fitzgerald, that deal is worth about $10 million annually.

All I have to add is that Johnson has been a megastar at the position over the past couple seasons but he better be ready to take his game to another level. Yes, I know its hard to do more then gain 1500+ yards a season at that position but he'll have to step his game up more. If he's making $10 million plus, the fans and media are going to be all over him now, one bad season and he's not worth a dime.

Those guys down in Houston aren't used to playing under that kind of pressure, is Andre Johnson ready for it? Cause it's coming.

Giants Stadium Demolition

Giants Stadium Demolition, A crane will start dismantling the top sections of the 34-year-old venue that has played host to the Giants, the Jets, the Cosmos, the MetroStars and the Red Bulls. It also was the scene of numerous Bruce Springsteen concerts. Springsteen and the E Street Band performed the song, “Wrecking Ball” as they finished a five-concert run at the venue. Everything from seats to pieces of turf are being sold to make way for a new stadium in the Meadowlands. The new stadium will seat 82,500 fans, including 9,500 club seats and 222 luxury suites. It will be the NFL’s third-largest stadium.

Tanglewood

Tanglewood is known as a music venue and an estate in Stockbridge and Lenox. It is also known as the home of Tanglewood Jazz Festival and Tanglewood Music Festival that are annual festival of the summer. It is also known as the summer home of "Boston Symphony Orchestra since 1937. Nathaniel Hawthorne was the person to whom the name of Tanglewood was given. He was a well-known author of the United States.

A small cottage was rented by the Hawthorne in the month of March in the local area on the suggestion of William Ticknor (his publisher). This cottage was rented from the William Aspinwall Tappan. "Tanglewood Tales" was written by the Hawthorne while staying at the cottage in 1853 which was an effort of re-writing a Greek tradition for girls and boys.

The cottage was named as "Tanglewood" by the owner in the memories of the book and soon after the name was copied by the Tappan family for their nearby summer estate. When the first concert was given by Boston Symphony Orchestra in the Berkshires in 1936, it is considered as the tracing point of the concerts of Tanglewood.

The series of the first three concerts of Tanglewood was held for around 15,000 people under tent. Performances have been given by the Boston Symphony Orchestra in the Koussevitzky Music Shed consecutively every summer since inception but they could not perform from 1942 to 1945. This gap in their performance in the Koussevitzky Music Shed was just because the concerts were cancelled by the Trustees due to the World War II.

Jack Robinson Liverpool, Liverpool’s hopes of a top six finish were dashed as they brought the 2009-10 campaign to an end with a disappointing 0-0 draw at relegated Hull City on Sunday afternoon. The Reds dominated for long spells but couldn’t find the breakthrough as Alberto Aquilani, Daniel Agger and Nabil El Zhar all spurned good chances, while Steven Gerrard hit the post late on.

It means Rafael Benitez’s men finish the season in seventh place, with the prospect of a Europa League qualifier in July looming on the horizon.

The stalemate did hold some significance, however, with Jack Robinson coming off the bench to become the youngest Liverpool player in history at the age of 16 years and 250 days.

The Academy starlet replaced Ryan Babel with four minutes remaining to begin what will hopefully be a bright future.

Ahead of the encounter in Humberside, the boss opted to make two changes to the team that lost 2-0 at home to Chelsea, with El Zhar making his first start of the season and Babel coming in for the injured Maxi Rodriguez.

But it was perhaps the substitutes’s bench that stole the pre-match limelight, with Martin Skrtel making his long awaited return from injury, while Robinson was hoping to make his own little bit of LFC history.

Many observers had suggested it was an end of season contest with little to play for, but with Pepe Reina still in the running for the Golden Glove award and the prospect of leapfrogging Aston Villa into sixth place, there was incentive enough for Liverpool to make the more promising start.

Some superb link up between Aquilani, Babel and Gerrard saw the skipper stretch his legs into the Hull area and angle a pass towards Dirk Kuyt, who was just a few yards away from collecting and having a free shot at goal.

It set the tone for a period of Reds dominance and on six minutes they could so easily have been ahead. Tom Cainey desperately tried to intercept Babel’s searching pass, stretching out a leg that saw the ball loop over Tigers stopper Matt Duke and fly inches wide of the post.

It was a lucky escape for the home side who were keen to sign off their time in the Barclays Premier League with a notable scalp. However, it was the visitors who continued to look the more likely with Aquilani fizzing a few yards off target with a speculative 25 yarder.

El Zhar was then a fingertip away from capping his promotion to the starting XI with a goal, lashing a superb shot towards the top corner that Duke did brilliantly to keep out.

From the resulting corner Liverpool came even closer, as El Zhar’s miscued strike was flicked goalwards by Kuyt, only for George Boateng to head off the line.

It had been a one-sided first-half, but after Aquilani dragged just wide of the far post, Hull almost snatched the lead. A free-kick was launched into the Reds’ area, ending with Jan Vennegoor of Hesselink nodding a tame effort into the grateful arms of Reina.

It seemed to inspire Iain Dowie’s men and they would miss two more gilt-edged opportunities just after the half hour mark.

Javier Mascherano lost possession deep inside Liverpool territory and after a miss-hit shot deflected into Mark Cullen’s path, the striker somehow contrived to step on the ball and fail to convert from just six yards out.

And the 18-year-old had his head in his hands less than a minute later when he glanced a free header wide of the far post after Will Atkinson’s superb cross from the right.

Liverpool could count themselves very fortunate not to have fallen behind, but they should have taken the lead on 45 minutes when some woeful Hull defending saw the ball drop to Aquilani 10 yards from goal. The Italian composed himself and drilled in a shot that cannoned back off the crossbar, with Daniel Agger lashing the rebound way over the top.

A look at the half-time scores suggested that the title was well on its way to Stamford Bridge, while Villa’s inability to breakdown Blackburn’s stubborn rearguard meant a Reds goal would give them the advantage in the battle for sixth.

However, it was Hull who started the second period on top and they should have broken the deadlock on 51 minutes. Bernard Mendy teased a cross in from the right that Vennegoor of Hesselink and Cairney both came within a whisker of converting.

Next it was Mendy’s turn to go close, firing in a 40 yard free-kick that Reina did well to tip over the top. The Spanish stopper had gone into the clash hoping to secure a fourth Golden Glove award in just five seasons, but with Cech a virtual bystander in Chelsea’s rout of Wigan, the No. 25 would eventually have to share the gong.

At the other end, Liverpool had faded as an attacking force and as the final moments approached, the best they had mustered was a poor effort from Aquilani.

With time running out Gerrard almost snatched a victory, hitting a low shot just wide before going even closer with a drive that smashed back off the post.

BRIDGETOWN: Australia seek a world title treble while England will be chasing a first global one-day trophy when the old enemies meet for Twenty20 World Cup final in Barbados today.

Australia already own the titles in the 50-over World Cup and the Champions Trophy but England have failed to land a prize in the 35 years since the International Cricket Council began global one-day events.

An exciting tournament will end at the Kensington Oval with the two best teams meeting in a fixture given added spice by the ancient rivalry between Australia and England.

While Australia have dominated the Twenty20 throughout, they will face an England team that has looked more together, focused and talented than any they have assembled in recent years.

However, as skipper Paul Collingwood has frequently noted, that progress will count for little if they return home from the Caribbean empty-handed again.

“We haven’t won anything yet — that’s the thing. We’ve got to a final but it means nothing until we win a World Cup,” he told reporters. “Until we do that we’re going to keep our feet on the ground.”

Collingwood hinted he would field the same team that comfortably beat Sri Lanka in their semi-final on Thursday.

That will mean a first taste of Australian pace bowling for young openers Craig Kieswetter and Michael Lumb.

The pair have kick-started England’s innings well throughout the tournament and despite the threat posed by the pace of Shaun Tait and Dirk Nannes, Collingwood said he would not ask his openers to change their positive approach.

Australia have looked the most powerful outfit in the event although they needed a rescue act from Mike Hussey, who struck a brilliant 60 in 24 balls, to get past Pakistan in Friday’s semi-final.

Michael Clarke’s men will be favourites largely due to their strength in depth and experience in big matches.

Clarke, though, said the form book counted for little in the compressed action of Twenty20.

“People would have thought we were the favourites on Friday and we nearly got beaten,” he said. “The fact is that we’ve got two wonderful cricket teams who’ve played fantastic Twenty20 cricket throughout this tournament.

“We have come a long way in this form of the game. But we didn’t come here to make the final, we came here to win the final.

“There’s no doubt we’d be much happier leaving Barbados with that one last trophy we don’t have just yet,” added Clarke.

NORTHAMPTON: Pakistan completed preparations for next week’s two Twenty20 internationals against Australia at Edgbaston with a six-wicket win over Northamptonshire at Wantage Road here on Saturday.

Although Zimbabwe’s Elton Chigumbura made 58 not out and Alex Wakely 55, Northamptonshire’s total of 133 for three rarely looked like troubling a Pakistan side for whom off-spinner Saeed Ajmal took one for 15 in four overs.

In reply, Pakistan completed victory in the 16th over, thanks mainly to Shahzaib Hossain’s 64 and captain Shahid Afridi’s dashing 42 off 13 balls.

Australia beat Pakistan by three wickets in a thrilling World Twenty20 semi-final in Saint Lucia in May when the teams last met in international cricket’s shortest format.

Pakistan Register Historic Win Over Australia

Pakistan, chasing 180, lost four wickets on a sunny morning in what was expected to be a comfortable run chase but was eventually far from it as a resilient Australia went on the attack. Umar Gul scored the winning run with a drive through cover off Mitchell Johnson. They made the runs with seven wickets down to deny Australia an eighth straight test win. Australia won the first match at Lord’s by 150 runs, also inside four days.

The Pakistan team took a lap of honour around the sparsely-attended ground in what was Salman Butt’s first test as captain, as a smattering of vocal Pakistanis cheered them.

Number eight and man of the match Mohammad Aamer had five and Gul one, as Pakistan got home despite the late wobble that saw the loss of six batsmen for 42 runs. Left-arm pace bowler Doug Bollinger made a late impression on the series with three for 51. Ben Hilfenhaus claimed three for 39.

Kamran Akmal scored 13 and calmed the nerves with three late boundaries – a cover drive off Bollinger to reduce the target to 15, an edge to third man off Hilfenhaus to take the target to 10, and a more convincing push through cover in the same over to leave six runs needed.

Akmal survived a scare with five runs needed when he square cut Johnson to Mike Hussey at gully. The fielder claimed the catch and the fielders celebrated but Akmal stood his ground.

After a third umpire review as to whether the shot was grassed, Akmal was reprieved.

Once Aamer edged Hilfenhaus through the slips for another boundary to leave one for victory, the result was as good as sealed.

There was time for one last blip though when Hussey did catch Akmal in Johnson’s next over with a flying leap to his left to leave Gul the task of finishing off the game.

Australia struck early with the wicket of Azhar Ali (51), caught behind off Bollinger to the tenth ball of the morning.

Overnight batsman Umar Akmal (8), usually aggressive in his approach, pushed at a Hilfenhaus ball outside off stump and gave Tim Paine his third catch. That was 150 for five.

It could have been 156 for six if Michael Clarke had not dropped Malik (on four), diving to his right at second slip off Bollinger. But Malik did not remain for long. He clouted a half-volley from Hilfenhaus straight to Marcus North at short extra cover.

Lake Placid Olympic Games

Thirty years have passed since the 1980 Lake Placid Olympic Games but if you listen closely, you can still almost hear the crowds, the music, and the Olympic spirit that put this small village on the map.

“I guess I remember what was a small, little town in 1979 and then it seems over night it swelled,” said Jon Lundin of the Olympic Regional Development Authority. “The world was at our doorstep and the show was about to begin.”

To this day Lake Placid remains one of only three towns to host two Olympic Games; one in 1932, the other in 1980. North Country residents got a front row seat to history as so-called miracles happened before their very eyes.

One of the most memorable moments from those Olympic Games was when the underrated U.S. men’s hockey team defeated the Russians 4-3 at the height of the Cold War. For many it was an event that extended far beyond the realm of sports.

“My father actually took me down Main Street to just see the reaction. And people were atop buildings,” Lundin recalled. “You could hardly move on Main Street the crowd was so thick.”

“There was one man standing on the top of a bank near his car yelling into his mic yelling they won, they won, they won,” said Connie Cross of Lake Placid. “It was just the most awesome experience you can imagine.”

And then there was Eric Heiden. The American skated his way to five Olympic gold medals, setting Olympic or world records in each event.

“When he got to the starting line there was just a roar among the crowd and when he skated people became very quiet. They either wanted to hear him skate of feel some kind of emotion to Eric Heiden,” Lundin said.

From the ice to Main Street to the Winter Olympic Museum, those memories are still very much alive today.

“I wish we’d make more of what the Olympic experience is rather than the Olympic performance,” said Joe Lamb, who competed in the 1972 Nordic combined. “It’s in your life. The flame burns in your life.”

The Dover, N.H., native told WBZ-TV on Wednesday that she was riding in Brookline on Monday night when a vehicle stopped behind her with its headlights out. She says two people got out, punched her, pushed her down and tried to grab her ride.

Thompson held onto the scooter and screamed for help, forcing the assailants to fleet. The 37-year-old suffered a cut on her nose and several scrapes and was treated at the scene.
Police say three teenagers were arrested.
Thompson is one of the most successful American Olympians, with 12 medals overall. Her most recent medals came in the 2004 Athens games.

Lance Armstrong Crash

Lance Armstrong Crash, American cyclist and multi Tour De France winner Lance Armstrong crashed in the Tour of California. He was taken to hospital were he received stitches under his eye. Armstrong is in training for the Tour De France which begins July 3rd and runs until the 25th. The Lance Armstrong crash will hopefully not hamper his training for the Tour.The RadioShack team in which he is a member of is waiting on the X-ray results of Lance's eye. The fall, which occurred after another rider skidded and fell, caused a chain reaction of falls. There was a fair bit of bleeding and swelling. Immediately after the Lance Armstrong crash he resumed the race, but eventually had to stop due to the injury.

In other cycling news today fellow Tour De France winner Floyd Landis admitted to using performance enhancing drugs in his 2006 victory. Landis states he wants to "clear his conscience" and thus confirmed previous allegations. He also included details in an email his allegations about Lance Armstrong and his alleged usage of performance enhancing drugs, Lance has always denied this. One can say Lance has made headlines today not only for the doping scandal but also for the Lance Armstrong crash.

ZURICH: Germany and England have moved up one place in the latest FIFA rankings ahead of Wednesday’s round of friendlies while former European champion Greece is back in the top 10 for the first time since June 2008.

Current European champion Spain still leads the rankings ahead of Brazil, the Netherlands and Italy. But Germany has moved up one spot to fifth, England has risen one place to eighth and Euro 2004 champion Greece goes up two to 10th, replacing Egypt, which raced up the rankings after winning the African Cup of Nations in January, but has slipped to 17th.

Portugal has slipped to sixth and Argentina to ninth.

The United States, which visits the Netherlands in a friendly on Wednesday, has gone down four spots to 18th.
