Marc Savard ,? Scary injury today for Bruins center Marc Savard during the third period of today's 3-2 loss in Pittsburgh. Savard took a blindside hit to the head from backchecking forward Matt Cooke after releasing a shot high in the Penguins zone. Cooke caught Savard with his left shoulder, the centerman's head vulnerable in his follow-through toward the net. According to Fluto Shinzawa's report in the Boston Globe's Bruins blog, coach Claude Julien says Savard was momentarily unconscious after the hit,
will remainin Pittsburgh overnight while his teammates travel to Toronto, and will be out of a lineup for a while. Savard was down on the ice for several minutes and eventually taken from the ice on a stretcher. He shook his right hockey glove off his hand while on the ice and on his way off the ice acknowledged the Pittsburgh crowd's applause with a wave of the same arm. He could be seen moving his legs moments after the hit, which occured with 537 remaining in the third period. No penalty was called on Cooke, but a significant league suspension is expected.
